Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
