This Special Release Pokémon Card Aims to Be Super Effective On Speculators
To celebrate the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Fans will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork all inspired by the museum's theme. The big draw, however, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location to its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.
The Book Behind the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome packed with stunning artwork depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor might publish once adventurers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
Why This Special Card Stand Out
The company regularly to issue to release cards for major tournaments or brand collaborations. Many of these promotional cards typically highlight the famous mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. What distinguishes this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. Although precise specs have not been immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, and fans limited to only a single card per purchase.
Limiting Speculator Activity
According to a company announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the museum walls. However, broader availability is slated for specific stores within the UK. Critically, collectors will not be able to purchase the card through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is a given, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. For those feeling left out, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City in the coming months.
"All profits from purchases made in the museum store and its online store, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of 400 scientists who are conducting studies and finding answers to the global ecological crisis," it notes.
