The President Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Members to White House

Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Mourners assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Honoring Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Measures and Policy Revisions

Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The incident prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and halt providing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to visit the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
