The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they attain the anticipated entry for a championship staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.
The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an England men’s match since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
England are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s ground.
Competition Opening and Demonstration
The event was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who urged Israel’s national side to be removed from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.
Signs were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Schedule
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.
Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a start time at late afternoon.
It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help reach a more diverse set of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the qualification path.
Venues and Knockout Stage
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena finalize the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight staged at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was removed as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
