The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
