Seamer Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series in Sydney starts at the end of the week.

England have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three teammates to get into double digits.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
