The star has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The money helped spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to charitable organizations.

Back when they earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their release their work, vocalist the singer stated that the act would give their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite divided her award across several organizations, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed new equipment," she told a publication.

Two years ago, the band contributed their prize money to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said artist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the buildings.
