Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
