Ex UK Serviceman Charged of Murdering Kenya Woman Appears in Courtroom
An individual has been presented in court as deportation processes commenced in the investigation of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a female from Kenya who was killed near a UK military installation in 2012.
Purkiss, 38 years old, who is a native of Greater Manchester region, appeared before the Westminster court on Friday, and stated to the court he intended to contest the deportation. Reports indicate that he was arrested on the evening of Thursday.
A detention order for the defendant was authorized by a Kenyan court in Nairobi in September. Legal prosecutors stated before the Kenyan court that the accused had been facing a one count, of homicide, and that the Kenyan authorities would pursue his extradition to face charges.
He was once employed as a medical attendant with the Lancaster Regiment, the infantry regiment for the northwestern England, including on tours of Afghanistan.
Agnes Wanjiru, 21 years old, a hair stylist who had a infant daughter, went missing after a night on the town, and her body was found two months later in the premises of the accommodation where she had previously spotted.
Not a single person had before been arrested or indicted in connection to her death. The arrest of Purkiss came after a fresh police investigation, which came after a article in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the publication contacted several serving and ex-military personnel in the military group.
The investigation has been headed by Kenyan detectives, which, under a bilateral security treaty, retains jurisdiction in the legal case.
