From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
