Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
